5 of our pupils cast in high profile dramatic production

We are delighted to announce that 5 pupils from Co-op Academy Failsworth have successfully auditioned and been cast in the Trust production of Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street.

There was tough competition for this gruesome show, with over 130 students choosing to audition during the last half term. This included children from primary schools, secondary schools and our Sixth Form College.

This is the second Trust production which unites students from different Co-op Academies, following the success of Les Misérables in 2023.

About the show:

“Sweeney Todd” is a musical thriller about a 19th century barber who goes on a murderous rampage.

Returning to London, Sweeney Todd is looking for revenge against the evil Judge Turpin who framed Todd, abducted his wife and sent him to prison for 15 years.

Renting a room for his barber’s practice over Mrs. Lovett’s struggling pie shop, Todd’s thirst for revenge soon expands to include not only the Judge but also his unfortunate customers. Meanwhile, Mrs. Lovett adds a new ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up, and the carnage has only just begun!

Our talented pupils are joining a cast of around 50, (including students from all our Greater Manchester academies) and will be working hard on rehearsals during their evenings and weekends between now and July. We also have students supporting us backstage and running the technical aspects of the show.

A big congratulations to all the young people who auditioned.

We can’t wait to support them in what promises to be a fantastic show which brings together some of the biggest talents from our academies.

The performances will take place on 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th July at Co-op Academy Manchester (M9 0WQ). Tickets will be on sale from 1pm on Monday 24 February from www.ticketsource.co.uk/cam
