Failsworth Fundraiser - Barnardo's

Co-op Academy Failsworth Raises £249.80 for Co-op and Barnardo’s Initiative Supporting Young People

Co-op Academy Failsworth has been successful in fundraising efforts in collaboration with Co-op and Barnardo’s, aimed at supporting young people across communities.

Co-op and Barnardo’s have joined forces with the ambitious goal of raising £5 million over the next two and a half years to support 750,000 young people. These funds will be directed towards providing essential needs such as access to food, mental wellbeing support, and opportunities for future growth and development.

Supporting this initiative is Co-op Academy Failsworth, which has demonstrated its commitment to the cause through a series of engaging fundraising events. Among these events were the Staff vs Student Bike Challenge, where staff and students took turns cycling to raise funds. With a rota in place, participants pedalled tirelessly to see how far they could cycle collectively.

Additionally, the academy organised a thrilling football tournament, featuring 13 teams competing in a spirited 7-a-side contest. With a nominal entry fee of £1 per person, participants and spectators alike contributed to the fundraising efforts. Separate tournaments were held for different year groups, ensuring inclusive participation and an enjoyable experience for all.

Further adding to the excitement was the Easter Egg Challenge, where students showcased their creativity by designing Easter eggs. The winning designs earned students’ vouchers, adding an element of friendly competition to the fundraising activities. Well done to Tyler in Year 7 who won overall, with Patsy (Year 7) and Lexi (Year 9) in second place. Also honourable mentions to Amy (Year 10); Angel (Year 9); Daisy (Year 8) and Ella (Year 9) who produced some fantastic designs.

Jack Ryan, Community Engagement Officer for Co-op Academy Failsworth, said: "Staff and Students have had a fantastic time helping to raise money for Bernado's, in partnership with Co-op. Bernado's and the Co-op are looking to raise £5m in the next two years to support young people like our students which I think is amazing and will have such a positive impact on our community."

Headteacher Phill Quirk said: "We are thrilled to have played a part in supporting Co-op and Barnardo’s in their mission to empower young people. The success of our fundraising events is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our staff, students, and community members."

In total, Co-op Academy Failsworth raised an impressive £249.
