Updated January 2021 Reopening

31st December 2020

Dear Parents / Carers

I am writing to you during the Christmas break following government announcements late yesterday. You can access the details via this link: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/school-contingency-plans-to-be-implemented-as-cases-rise

Year 11 Students

From the update you will see that the Government has made changes to the dates when students return to the academy, this is due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases around the country. The original announcement stated that students in examination years (Year 11) would return to the academy on Tuesday 5th January. Yesterday’s announcement has delayed this, meaning Year 11 students will now return to the academy on Monday 11th January instead. From Tuesday 5th- Friday 8th January, all Year 11 students will be expected to complete their learning remotely using Google Classroom. All work will be
linked to revision in preparation for their mock examinations originally scheduled to take place during this week. Students will now complete their mocks on their return to academy starting on Monday 11th January; a new mock timetable will be issued to all students.

Year 7-10 Students

Students in Year 7-10 will not return to the academy on Monday 11th January as originally planned, they will now return on Monday 18th January instead. They will need complete remote learning at home for the first 2 weeks of the new year and will return to the academy on Monday 18th January to resume learning. A small number of students will be invited in
to complete home learning in the academy as per government guidance. This work will be identical to the work set to students who are studying at home. All remote learning will be set via Google Classroom and will be set in subject specific classrooms. It is absolutely crucial that all learning set is completed. We will not be reteaching any of the lessons set remotely when students return to the academy. If they do not complete this they will fall behind in their studies.

On Tuesday 5th Students will have core: Maths, English, Science (and for Years 7-10 Languages) home learning set. From Wednesday 6th they will be required to follow their normal school timetable.

If you need technical support accessing Google Classroom please go to the academy website where you will find all the necessary advice and guidance. The home learning department will be on hand to provide any support you may need: passwords, log-in details, lack of IT facilities and help with providing a laptop. You can contact them directly after the Christmas break by emailing: homelearningteam@coopfailsworth.co.uk or by calling 0161 688 3900 and dialling extension
