Department Information

Geography is a subject that provides pupils with a clear understanding of how actions impact the environment. It brings current issues and discussions to life in the classroom and how places can change over time. Students also examine the relationships between people, places and the environment.

Studying Geography provides students with the expertise and knowledge which they can transfer to other subjects and their daily life. They also study a wide range of different geographical processes such as earthquakes, tsunamis, river flooding and the impact these events have on the environment and economy as well as the management of them.

Students learn in a variety of environments and visits to a coastal environment and an urban landscape are offered, all of which bring geography to life. Students can also take part in co-curricular activities including an Eco-Club. There are also a variety of trips that complement the curriculum such as visits to Angel Square in Manchester. During the year a number of students participate in The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. This is a popular enrichment activity with a number of students each year gaining Bronze and Silver awards.
