Community Fridge

Dear Parents / Carers

We have now secured a storage unit that will operate as a ‘Community Fridge’ based at the Soccer Centre. In these unprecedented times we are very aware that family life is tough and many people face employment uncertainty and hardship. As a strong community that pulls together, we want to try and set up a ‘Community Fridge’ that allows parents to drop in to pick up some basic provisions as frequently as they like. I am therefore asking the whole Academy community to support this and demonstrate one of our 4 behaviours of ‘Show you care’.

We are hoping that students/parents could make a weekly donation of non perishable goods such as UHT milk, tins, dried pasta, rice and cereal etc. We would ask students to drop this on their arrival to the building and this will then be collected and sorted by some of our students who work daily in ‘The Hub’. We will let you know when we are ready to receive any donations but it is likely to be from mid May. In addition, as a central part of our community we will also be asking supermarkets for donations to our Community Fridge to reduce food wastage and support the environment.

The whole concept of a ‘Community Fridge’ is that it is driven by the community, whatever is donated we happily give out to families in the community. The whole approach is completely voluntary.

We hope the Community Fridge will open in mid May and we will write to you again with full details.

Yours sincerely
