Letter to Parents RE Matt Brannon

Dear Parents / Carers

This is not the letter I ever wished to write as a Headteacher, but thought it was important to inform you of some very sad news we have received at the Academy.

We have been informed that Matt Brannon, one of our Academy Teaching Assistants, very sadly passed away this week. I know many of you will have children that have been supported by Matt and will be shocked and deeply saddened to hear this. After speaking with Matt’s family, we felt writing to parents to inform you of this was the right thing to do.

Matt was such an important part of our community; an amazing TA and brilliant colleague and friend to many of us. As you can imagine we are shocked and devastated by this news.

We are supporting all young people, families and colleagues that Matt has worked closely with, to help them process and manage the loss.

I am aware that some of your children will be affected by this news and will need support both at the academy and at home. There are a number of websites available that provide sensitive and helpful guidance on dealing with bereavement. This may be something some parents may wish to access to help with any discussion you may have with you children, particularly over the weekend:

Matt will be hugely missed by us all. His incredible work, commitment and dedication to our children and community will be his lasting legacy.

I am so sorry to deliver such news; I am sure you will join us in sending our condolences and thoughts to Matt’s family at this very sad time.

Yours sincerely

Phill Quirk
Headteacher
