Maths Trip – August 2021

Dear Parents / Carers of Year 7

The Maths team will be running a 2 day Maths Summer Camp over the summer holidays on 17th & 18th of August. The first day will be a skills day in school, second day we will use these skills on an 8km challenge walk with checkpoint challenges on route.

It is a great opportunity to learn maths outside and put the skills in a context which makes it easier to understand. The GCSE Syllabus requires students to understand compass bearings, map scales pacing and ratio and these are better taught in a practical setting.

The walk will be 8KM along a flat route with plenty of breaks. There will be a teacher for every 6 students and we will also have the school minibus as a safety vehicle. The checkpoints will require the students to complete a task based on the skills learnt the previous day. They will require problem solving, practical maths and leadership. All great life skills.

Due to the teacher student ratio we can only have 50 students and it will be on a first come first serve basis. You will be informed on Monday 19th July if your son/daughter has been allocated a place.

Students should dress appropriate for a walk- Tracksuits/T-shirts/Trainers. Each student will also be required to bring the following for each day:

  • Sun Hat
  • Waterproofs
  • Interchangeable layers to cope with weather changes
  • Plenty of Water/Juice
  • Packed Lunch/Snacks
  • Backpack

To sign up, please fill in the following Google Form by Wednesday 14th July.  https://forms.gle/A2VBPeYW13G9Unhz8

Yours Sincerely
